Lockport Woman Arrested for Driving Intoxicated with Two Children in Vehicle

Sheriff Michael Filicetti announced the arrest of 38-year-old Karen Trinkwalder of Lockport, under the Leandra’s Law statute.
On April 20th, 2022, Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputies observed Trinkwalder operating a motor vehicle near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Old Niagara Road in the Town of Lockport. Deputies further observed Trinkwalder to be actively drinking what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage while driving.
Deputies stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of the Crosby’s located at 4531 Lake Avenue and additionally discovered two child passengers ages six and eight. Following Field Sobriety testing, Trinkwalder was subsequently arrested and was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law violation), two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Possession of an Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in a Motor Vehicle.
The children were placed in the care of a family member that responded to the scene of the traffic stop. Trinkwalder was remanded to the Niagara County Jail pending her arraignment.
