In a remarkable act of bravery, a kind-hearted local hero came to the rescue of two individuals whose Jet Ski had capsized in the Niagara River near Tonawanda Island on a Friday evening - saving their lives.
The incident prompted an immediate response from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Erie County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit, and the Air 1 helicopter, who were alerted to the situation at around 6:30 p.m. However, even before their arrival, a 53-year-old man from Grand Island had already managed to safely retrieve both individuals from the water and bring them onto his boat.
Subsequently, the Coast Guard took over the care of the rescued individuals. The Erie County Sheriff's Office emphasized the importance of boaters remaining vigilant at all times and ensuring that everyone on personal watercrafts wears a flotation device.
