Lewiston Man Arrested After Violently Assaulting Woman With Shovel, Victim Hospitalized


A Lewiston man has been apprehended and is now facing multiple felony charges in connection with a violent assault on a woman with a shovel that occurred on the Tuscarora Reservation. The Lewiston Police Department reported the incident, stating that Hayes Kagesheyongai Hamby, 28, was taken into custody by State Police on Saturday.



According to the police report, Hamby was apprehended shortly before noon as he was walking along Hartland Road in the Town of Hartland. He has been charged with first-degree assault, a Class B felony, first-degree reckless endangerment, a Class D felony, third-degree criminal mischief, a Class E felony, and third-degree menacing, a Class B misdemeanor.



Following his arrest, Hamby was transported to the Niagara County Jail in Lockport to await arraignment. It is unknown what bail will be set at once that occurs. The Lewiston Police Department has identified Hamby as the primary suspect in the assault on a woman that occurred on Upper Mountain Road at approximately 9:45pm on Friday.



During the attack, the victim sustained a serious head injury after being struck by a shovel. She was immediately attended to by Tri-Community Ambulance and subsequently transferred to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for further medical treatment.



The authorities are actively investigating the case to ensure justice is served and to prevent any further acts of violence. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the local authorities.
