New York State Police are conducting an investigation into a shots fired call that prompted the early closure of the Great New York State Fair on Sunday evening. Troopers received a call around 8:30pm reporting possible shots fired between the midway and concert area at Suburban Park. Shortly after the initial call, a second report of possible shots fired at an eatery building was received by the State Police.
Troopers swiftly responded to both incidents and conducted a thorough investigation. However, no evidence of shots fired or any injuries were found. Concerned about the safety of fairgoers, the New York State Fair announced on social media at 9:40pm that the fair would be closing early after consulting with law enforcement.
Governor Kathy Hochul, who was briefed on the situation, expressed gratitude to the New York State Police and other law enforcement agencies for their swift response. Early indications suggest that the reports of shots fired was a false alarm and no injuries have been reported.
State Police are continuing their investigation into the false reports to determine the source and any potential motives behind them.
