Immigrant who ‘Illegally entered the country’ Caught Driving Erratically, Heavily Intoxicated in Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls Police were engaged in routine patrol in the area of Pine Avenue on August 17th around 2:20am when officers observed a black 2013 Ford F150 truck traveling at a high rate of speed on wet roads in a residential area. The truck had fishtailed multiple times before the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights were activated. Yet, the driver would not stop.

The vehicle turned down a side street and then an alley in an attempt to evade law enforcement. Shortly thereafter the driver complied with officers' request to stop and pulled over.

Officers made contact with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Adailson Correa de Sousa, and immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol from his breath. In addition, officers noted that he had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

The male stated that he spoke Portuguese. Officers had him step away from the vehicle. He provided officers with a Brazilian birth certificate but did not have any federal or state issued identification.

The male admitted that he “illegally entered the country” and was eventually able to produce a passport with no stamp from a U.S. port of entry. Border Patrol arrived on scene to assist with translation. It was determined that the male had been paroled into the country with an immigration court date in 2025 and was not a wanted party.

Due to the language barrier, officers were unable to instruct him in standardized field sobriety testing. As the unregistered owner of the vehicle it was towed.

The male had several tickets written including unlicensed operation, speeding and violating right of way. However, there was no ticket written (per the official police incident report) for driving while intoxicated.

The male was released on the uniform traffic tickets. He was not taken to police headquarters for booking and processing. No further information is available at this time  – Immigrant who ‘Illegally entered the country’ Caught Driving Erratically, Heavily Intoxicated in Niagara Falls.
