An incident early Tuesday morning has led to a homicide investigation following the death of a male pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on Hyde Park Boulevard. Niagara Falls Police, fire and medical were dispatched to the scene around 2:36am after receiving reports of the accident.
Upon arrival at the intersection of Hyde Park Blvd and D Street, responders found the male victim lying in the roadway in the 200 block of Hyde Park Boulevard. He was located near a damaged 2008 Mercury vehicle that had been partially pushed onto the curb. The vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene. Within minutes of the accident, officers were able to gather a description of a possible suspect vehicle, which was identified as a black Ford Escape with a New York license plate.
A patrol of the area led to the discovery of an unoccupied black 2009 Ford Escape with front-end damage in the 3500 block of Royal Avenue. The Niagara Falls Police Department has activated its Crash Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation Unit, and Crime Scene Unit to assist in the ongoing investigation.
