Hailee Steinfeld revealed that she and boyfriend Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen nearly encountered a "bad omen" during their Christmas gift exchange. The couple's lighthearted story captured the attention of fans this week.
Despite her preference to avoid the spotlight, Steinfeld is a regular presence at Bills games, supporting Allen from the stands. In the lead-up to the Titans-Bills matchup at Highmark Stadium, she teased her latest newsletter of "Beau Society." Her October 18th issue, titled "Soups and Sweets," Steinfeld shared a comical story about their holiday gift exchange.
The couple, both passionate about cooking, surprised each other by gifting the same item: a Miyabi Kaizen chef's knife. While the gesture was endearing, Allen's superstitious nature kicked in when he recalled an old wives' tale.
According to the tale, gifting a knife to a significant other without paying for it could signify the severing of their relationship. To avoid any potential bad luck, the couple exchanged quarters to "pay" for their gifts.
Steinfeld recounted the amusing moment, saying, "I got this knife for Josh last year for Christmas because cooking is something we love to do together. For Christmas, he got me…the same one in a different color!
After we exchanged our knives, he told me there's an old wives' tale that if you gift your significant other a knife, you have to pay for it, otherwise it signifies the severing of a relationship. So we exchanged quarters so we didn't have that bad omen."
The actress expressed her enthusiasm for the knife, stating, "Oh my God, I love this knife! I don't know much about a chef's knife, but it is just so nice and makes me feel official."
In addition to the story, Steinfeld invited readers to share in her culinary adventures and included two recipes in the newsletter: "Hailee's Tortellini Chicken Soup (for the soul)" and "Hailee's Chocolate Chip Cookies."
