Buffalo Police are seeking the public's help in identifying two men involved in a shootout that occurred early Wednesday morning at a gas station on Fillmore Avenue. The incident took place around 3:30am. Officers arrived to find evidence of gunfire but no victims at the scene.
Security camera footage from the gas station revealed a seemingly friendly interaction among three men near the register prior to violence erupting. However, the situation escalated when one man opened fire on the third individual who then returned fire. The chaotic exchange left the gas station in disarray.
While officers were investigating the scene, they received a report of a 41-year-old man who had walked into ECMC with a gunshot wound to the chest. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening. He matched the description of one of the individuals present at the gas station during the shootout.
The man, identified as Kacene Brathwaite, 41, of Buffalo, has since been charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment. Authorities are now focused on identifying the two other men involved in the incident.
Buffalo Police are urging anyone with information regarding the shootout or the individuals involved to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling or texting the confidential tip-line at (716) 847-2255.
