GameStop, the popular video game retailer, is making a nostalgic move by transforming some of its stores into "retro" video game shops. These new stores will focus on selling older consoles and games including earlier models of Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation, and Xbox systems.
GameStop is bringing back the classics, catering to gamers who have a fondness for retro gaming. In an official announcement, GameStop exclaimed, "THE CLASSICS ARE BACK!" The company plans to offer a wide range of older games from beloved franchises such as "Mario Kart," "Grand Theft Auto," "Halo," and "Pokémon."
This exciting development will excite gaming enthusiasts who have a passion for revisiting the games from when they were kids. The new "GameStop Retro" stores will initially be launched in more than a dozen locations across Western and Upstate New York.
These locations include stores in Blasdell and Buffalo, as well as at Destiny USA, which is known by its retro name "Carousel Center." However, GameStop has not disclosed the exact number of stores nationwide that will be converted into retro locations, nor whether this change is permanent or temporary.
It seems that most New York locations will continue to operate as regular GameStop stores with only three stores within a 50-mile radius of Buffalo embracing the old-school vibe. The regional GameStop Retro locations in upstate New York include:
-Blasdell: Mckinley Place, 3701 McKinley Pkwy 1100 McKinley Mall, Blasdell
-Buffalo: Thruway Plaza, 740 Thruway Plaza Dr., Ste 100, Buffalo
-Buffalo: University Plaza, 3500 Main St Ste 500, Buffalo
-Greece: Northgate Plaza, 3876 Dewey Ave., Greece
Just like regular GameStop stores, the inventory at GameStop Retro stores is expected to vary from location to location. Customers can expect to find both new and used video games, controllers, consoles, and other gaming-related items. The GameStop Retro stores will offer a wide selection of consoles including the following:
