Former Tenant Strikes Back: Burglarizes Residence and Gets Caught on Camera

Former Tenant Strikes Back: Breaks in with Crowbar, Steals Tools and Gets Caught on Camera

Niagara Falls Police responded to the 600 block of 15th Street around 9pm on June 19th after reports of a burglary.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the complainant who stated he owns the residence and that someone broke into the house. In total, the suspect caused property damage and stole a box of tools. He showed officers camera footage of a white male in a blue sweatshirt with his hood up walking from the backyard to the side door. The suspect appeared to be using a crowbar to attempt entry into the 2nd floor apartment.

At one point the suspect did look directly at the camera showing his face. He was not wearing a mask. The suspect then attempted to kick the door in, but while doing so an audible alarm went off and he fled in a hurry. He ran out of the side door and went through the backyard.

Officers observed damage to the side door, the door leading to the basement, the door leading upstairs, and the 2nd floor door.

The estimated amount of damage and stolen property value is about $1,000.

It was quickly learned that officers had responded to this residence numerous times before for domestic violence complaints from the lower apartment (not involving the complainant). Officers looked up the prior male tenant’s name on IMPACT and observed his mugshot, which looked identical to the suspect attempting to break into 2nd floor apartment.
