A former Buffalo firefighter has been sentenced to 10 years' probation after being convicted of sharing illegal images of children online, per acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane. Jose R. DeJesus, 40, pleaded guilty in May to one count of promoting a sexual performance by a child, a Class D felony. Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes also ordered DeJesus to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors revealed that DeJesus possessed illicit photos and videos of children and shared an image through a website in January 2022. Despite facing a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, DeJesus was sentenced to 10 years' probation.
At the time of the offense, DeJesus was employed by the Buffalo Fire Department. However, he was immediately placed on administrative leave and later dismissed from his position.
Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane commended the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Troop A Computer Crimes Unit, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for their diligent work in investigating this case.
