Former Bills Receiver Stevie Johnson Believes Trading Stefon Diggs Was Perfect for Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills made significant changes to their offense this offseason including the trade of four-time Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. Rumors of tension between Diggs, quarterback Josh Allen, and head coach Sean McDermott were circulating within the organization all season. Despite concerns about the team's passing game, former Bills receiver Stevie Johnson is not worried.

Johnson believes that Allen will benefit from not feeling pressured to force the ball to a specific receiver.

"It's perfect for Josh," Johnson stated. "There is nobody you need to force it to. I don't think there will be a fall-off at all. The only fall-off will be by the eye when there's no guy with 1,200 yards. They may not have that, but what you're going to see is a more loose quarterback because instead of thinking about two options and then needing to scramble, there are so many options. It's good for a quarterback to have a balanced, clear head, knowing that I can use any piece - not forced to look this way for a certain amount of time."

Diggs did not have a 100-yard receiving game after Week 6 in 2023. The Bills are expected to focus more on the ground game and efficient passing plays rather than relying solely on deep passes.

Josh Allen spoke to the media after practice this week, discussing the Buffalo Bills' performance during the 2024 NFL preseason. Allen emphasized the importance of maintaining a playoff-caliber level of performance - a principle instilled by head coach Sean McDermott.

He highlighted the vocal leadership within the team and the ongoing effort to improve. Allen praised wide receiver Curtis Samuel, who joined the Bills this past spring, for his physicality and contributions to the team. He also commended rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman for his ability to make high-point catches and his overall ball skills.

As the regular season approaches, the Buffalo Bills are focused on fine-tuning their offense and maintaining a high level of performance.
