Foot Chase Ensues After Police Observe Glass Pipe, Arrest Yields Colorful Pills

Niagara Falls Police were on routine patrol around 9:00pm on June 5th when they noticed a black male impeding traffic while walking southbound on the 700 block of 17th Street.

While interviewing the male, officers advised him that he was causing cars to go around him into the oncoming lane. The male stated he understood, would not walk in the middle of the street again, and started to walk away.

As the male turned to walk away, an officer noticed a large bulge in his front waistband area which he kept grabbing for. He was asked to stop and officers exited the vehicle. While exiting, a glass pipe was seen in the male’s left hand that he was trying to hide. The male then started to run away.

While running, the male crossed Pine Avenue causing vehicles to stop almost causing a collision. Officers continued to pursue the male while ordering him to stop. The male disregarded all commands and eventually smashed the glass pipe.

The male continued running and grabbing at his waistband as if he was trying to retrieve something. Officers quickly closed the distance in the foot pursuit (the male was clearly not a long-distance sprinter).

The male was placed under arrest. After a search, four orange capsules, one yellow/green capsule and one white tablet was seized – all suspected drugs.

The male maintained that he was only grabbing at his waistband to keep his pants from falling down. He was transported to police headquarters and released with an appearance ticket.
