Niagara Falls, ONTARIO: A man is in critical condition following an incident involving a 17-year-old driver who stabbed him during an argument on New Year's Eve. According to Niagara police, the altercation occurred on December 31st around 8:30pm in Niagara Falls near the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Centre Street. The teenager was driving a car that contained a 38-year-old man and his 6-year-old daughter in the back seat.
The situation escalated from a verbal dispute between the driver and the passenger to a physical confrontation outside the vehicle resulting in the stabbing of the man. After the incident, the young girl exited the car and the teenager returned to the driver's seat and fled the scene. The victim was subsequently transported to a hospital outside the area where he is reported to be in stable but critical condition.
The Niagara Regional Police Service stated that the nature of the relationship between the accused and the victim remains unclear. The incident is under investigation.
The 17-year-old suspect, who is from Hamilton, has been arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault and breach of recognizance. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, his identity cannot be disclosed.
