Evicted Tenant Returns, Breaks Into Apartment to Retrieve Belongings

Liquor Store Owner Hospitalized After Robbery, Suspect Hit him Over the Head with Bottle

Niagara Falls Police responded to the 100 block of 12th Street around 12pm on August 18th after reports of a burglary that was later changed to a criminal mischief.

Upon arrival, police spoke to the owner who stated that yesterday a tenant of his said that someone was breaking into the upstairs apartment. He showed up a few hours later and noticed the side doors open and the upstairs door on the balcony was kicked in.

Since then, the owner fixed the damage to the door, boarded it up and changed the locks.

The owner further told police that he evicted a tenant on Friday, August 16th from the apartment and fully believes it was him retrieving property. Officers were given contact information for the tenant by the owner.

At this time, there were miscellaneous items left in the apartment belonging to the former tenant. The owner was unsure what might have been taken but said that the tenant was to come today at 1:00pm to retrieve the property.

There was no clear answer from the police incident report on why the owner would assume it was the former tenant given that he was coming to lawfully retrieve all of his belongings later that day. No further information is available at this time.
