Niagara Falls Police were on routine patrol around 4am on September 20th when they observed a motorcycle fail to stop at a stop sign. Officers turned their vehicle toward the motorcycle and observed the driver failing to signal when changing lanes, failing to maintain his lane, and jumping the curb and driving through residents' front yards.
At this time officers accelerated to the motorcycle and activated emergency lights. However, the operator of the motorcycle quickly sped up. Dispatch was advised of the situation.
The motorcycle was placed at traveling over 60 MPH on Walnut Avenue in a posted 30 MPH zone. Officers lost sight of the vehicle not soon afterward. A short time later, the motorcycle was seen in a parking lot on the northwest corner of Main Street with the driver present and engine running.
The male operator was detained until additional officers arrived. The motorcycle was found to have a license plate that came back as uninsured, unregistered and uninspected. The male operator was found to have a suspended license due to 4 scoffs on three separate dates.
Due to observations of possible impairment, the operator was asked if he would perform any field sobriety tests. He refused. Officers observed him having slurred and illogical speech along with glassy and bloodshot eyes. There was also a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his person. He also admitted to drinking “some” alcohol earlier that night.
The operator was issued 10 traffic tickets and read his DWI/Miranda warnings before being transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. He was held for arraignment as he “refused to blow on the data master.” No further information is available at this time.
