Niagara Falls Police were on routine patrol around 10pm on October 6th when officers observed a red Chevrolet Suburban traveling at 48MPH in a marked 30MPH zone. Emergency lights were activated and officers began to pursue the vehicle.
The vehicle did not pull over immediately, but eventually came to a stop at the Coastal Gas Station on 19thStreet. The male driver verbally identified himself and immediately stated that he did not have a driver’s license. While the male was providing officers with his New York State Identification, officers could smell a heavy odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from the male’s breath.
As police were preparing to administer standardized field sobriety tests to the male, he stated, “I had a couple drinks tonight from the casino.” Officers asked if he had performed field sobriety tests before and if he had any prior DWI’s to which the male responded, “yes.” When asked if he was intoxicated, the male responded “probably am.”
The male failed all field sobriety tests and refused to provide a chemical test. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for booking and processing.
It was later discovered that the male had been operating on a revoked license and was previously convicted for DWI in the previous 10 years. The vehicle he was driving did not have an ignition interlock device, which the male was mandated to have. No further information is available at this time.
