Driver Pulled Over for Traffic Stop Becomes Irate, Puts Police Officers in Fear for Their Safety

Niagara Falls Police initiated a traffic stop around 12:15pm on June 7th after observing a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed down Ferry Avenue. The vehicle was attempting to speed pass cars and go around on the right.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle complied. As officers approached the vehicle, the driver became highly irate. He was yelling obscenities at officers and calling them derogatory names. Officers were attempting to deescalate the situation but the driver continued yelling and being hostile.


While walking back toward the police cruiser to see if the driver’s vehicle was valid, the driver exited his vehicle and approached the officers yelling in an aggressive manner. According to the report, officers were “in fear for [their] safety.”

While attempting to place the male under arrest the driver did tense up and try to pull his arms away. Officers were able to secure the driver in handcuffs and he was transported to police headquarters for processing.
