Amherst Police are investigating a car crash that occurred Monday night at the intersection of Sheridan Drive and Esjay Road resulting in the death of a 23-year-old man. The incident was reported to authorities around 9:40pm.
Upon arrival, officers found a 2019 Honda CRV that had been turning westbound from Sheridan Drive onto southbound Esjay Road when it collided with a 2008 Chevy Impala traveling eastbound on Sheridan Drive. The impact caused the Impala to burst into flames.
The driver of the Impala, identified as Marcus Powell from Williamsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda CRV, a 35-year-old male from Amherst, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to ECMC for treatment.
Additionally, a 3-year-old passenger in the CRV was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition.
No charges have been filed in connection with the crash. However, they can be brought in the future depending on the results of ongoing investigations.
