A daycare director on Kensington Avenue has been arrested and charged with child endangerment following an incident that occurred on Tuesday. The arrest comes after a daycare employee was also arrested and charged by Buffalo Police for endangering the welfare of a child.
The incident unfolded around noon when officers responded to a call at the daycare located on the 300 block of Kensington Avenue. According to reports, a 17-year-old female engaged in a verbal altercation with the daycare's director, during which she expressed concerns about the alleged mistreatment of a child. The altercation escalated and the 17-year-old was physically pushed out of the classroom in front of other children.
The daycare director, identified as 52-year-old Mary Goodwill from Tonawanda, now faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child and harassment in the second degree.
In the wake of the allegations, more parents have taken to social media to voice their concerns. Erie County Child Protective Services and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services have been called in to investigate the claims made by other parents. As a precautionary measure, the daycare has voluntarily shut down for the week while the investigation continues.
The Buffalo Police Department's Special Victims Unit is actively involved in the investigation working diligently to gather evidence and ensure the safety and well-being of all children involved.
Authorities are urging any individuals with additional information or concerns to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
