Crash Involving Wrong-way Driver Sends 3 to Hospital


Niagara Falls and Buffalo Ranked Among Worst Retirement Destinations in New York


According to Buffalo Police, three individuals were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver in the early hours of Sunday morning on Route 5 heading towards the Skyway. The incident occurred when a 39-year-old male driver was traveling in the wrong direction around 12:45am resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle.



The vehicle that was struck by the wrong-way driver rolled over and landed on its roof, causing significant damage. Police reported that the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was taken to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) to receive treatment for injuries. Additionally, his 4-year-old son was transported to Oishei Children's Hospital for observation.


The vehicle that was struck and rolled over was being driven by a 48-year-old woman. She was taken by ambulance as well to ECMC for injuries sustained in the crash.



It is unknown at this time if the wrong-way driver will be charged with a crime in connection with the accident or receive any vehicle and traffic tickets. There has been no indication whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Lastly, there has been no details as to whether or not child protective services was contacted regarding the 4-year-old child. If law enforcement shares any of this information, we will provide it at that time.
