Couple Attempts to Steal $1,562 Worth of Items from Walmart, Says Employee OK'd It

Couple Attempts to Steal $1,562 Worth of Items from Walmart, Says Employee OK'd It

Niagara Falls Police responded to Walmart on Military Road around 10pm on August 23rd after reports of a larceny.

Officers were standing by the general merchandise entrance when a male and female approached them with a shopping cart filled with several items. The parties had already passed all points of purchase and were trying to exit the store.

Observing that they did not pay for the items at the front registers, officers asked the couple to see their receipt. The male did produce a receipt with one item on it. Upon being asked where the receipt was with the rest of the items, the male said that he did not have one.

The male told police that the “employee in the back” where he cashed out the headphones “didn’t ring the other items.” He tried convincing police that by the employee not ringing them up they were free and he did not have to pay for them.

Officers reviewed store security video surveillance and it showed that the other items in the cart were indeed not paid for. The value of the unpaid stolen items was $1,562.58. The male and female were arrested and brought to the asset protection room where arrest paperwork was completed.

Both parties received appearance tickets returnable at Niagara Falls City Court. No further information is available at this time.
