A family in Barker has faced a heartbreaking loss after a fire completely destroyed their home leaving only debris in its wake. In response, the local community has come together to provide support and assistance as the family begins to rebuild their lives.
Hal Hawley, a familiar face at Highmark Stadium every Sunday, found himself in an unimaginable situation last week. Instead of gearing up for a Buffalo Bills game, he was battling a fire that would change everything for him and his family. As he prepared for the chilly weather, he noticed a strange smell and stepped outside to investigate, only to discover that his own home was engulfed in flames.
Despite his experience as a volunteer firefighter, the situation quickly escalated and he rushed to get his wife to safety and called for help while attempting to extinguish the flames. However, the thick smoke and toxic fumes forced him to retreat, leaving him helpless as he watched his home of over 20 years succumb to the fire.
The emotional toll of losing irreplaceable items, including cherished oil paintings created by his mother, weighed heavily on him. Friends and neighbors were devastated to hear about the tragedy, particularly those who know Hawley as a kind and selfless individual who is always ready to lend a hand.
In an effort to assist the family, a longtime friend initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for their recovery. The community's response has been remarkable, with contributions pouring in, including gift cards, clothing, and temporary housing arrangements.
