Niagara Falls Police responded to Sunoco on Hyde Park Boulevard around 3am on July 14th after a burglar broke into a Sunoco and stole almost a thousand dollars worth of cigarettes.
Upon arrival, police spoke to the owner who stated that sometime overnight an unknown suspect broke the front glass door, made entry into the building, and stole several packs of cigarettes. The owner further stated that the alarm did not go off even though it was armed and ready.
Police viewed the surveillance footage. After midnight, a light-skinned black male grabs a bag of concrete from the north side of the building and throws it at the front glass door several times causing it to break. Once broken, the male crawls through the door and goes directly to the cigarettes behind the counter. The male had two reusable shopping bags with him and began filling them up with cigarettes.
Based on the footage, it appeared as though the unknown suspect took 60 or more cartons of cigarettes. The total estimated value of all cartons taken is nearly $900. The owner told police he does not keep an inventory on the cigarettes, so an exact number is not known.
After filling his bags, the unknown male crawls back through the broken door and runs away. He concealed his face by synching the hoodie tight around his face. Police canvassed the area with negative results. No further information is available - Burglar Breaks Glass Door with Bag of Concrete, Steals Over 60 Cartons of Cigarettes from Sunoco.
