Officers from Buffalo's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested a Brazilian man on charges of strangulation and endangering the welfare of a child this past week. The arrest included a pointed response from ERO leadership directed at Governor Kathy Hochul condemning her for policies related to illegal immigrants.
The man, who is unlawfully present in the United States and has a final order of removal, faces local charges related to the alleged strangulation and child endangerment. Additionally, he is under investigation in Brazil for multiple serious offenses including homicide.
Field Office Director Thomas Brophy emphasized the commitment of ERO officers to safeguarding communities from dangerous individuals.
"The men and women of ERO will continue to protect our communities from dangerous offenders, regardless of what the governor of New York State says," Brophy stated.
