John Murphy, the former Buffalo Bills broadcaster, was recently honored by being inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame. His broadcasting career with the Bills began in 1984 where he initially served as an analyst alongside Van Miller until 1989.
After a brief hiatus, he returned in 1994 in the same analyst role and transitioned to play-by-play broadcaster in 2003. He continued in that role as the 'voice of the Bills' until 2023. In addition to his broadcasting work, Murphy also hosted a radio show.
Recognizing his contributions to the Bills, Murphy was previously inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2019. He published a book titled “If These Walls Could Talk: Buffalo Bills: Stories from the Buffalo Bills Sideline, Locker Room, and Press Box” in 2023. Despite health problems that forced him to leave broadcasting, Murphy contributes as a writer for WIVB Buffalo where he writes weekly columns about the Bills.
