A group of nearly a dozen Buddhist monks, who embarked on a journey from Key West, Florida to Niagara Falls, New York to raise awareness about achieving world peace, have officially reached Western New York!
The monks, representing different parts of the world, began their walk on March 31st and have been covering an average of 30 miles per day.
On Monday, June 24th, the monks made their way through the Southern Tier traveling along Route 5 and Route 20. Their ultimate destination is Terrapin Point and are planning to travel through Grand Island.
Having already covered a distance of 2,000 miles, the monks have traversed through several states including Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, and now New York.
The monks have chosen to travel light, carrying only minimal clothing, blankets, and food. They rely on the kindness and generosity of the people they encounter along the way to offer support and assistance to help them make their way across America.
The journey of these dedicated monks will continue throughout the week, with their pilgrimage set to conclude on Saturday at the observation deck of Terrapin Point. For those interested in following their progress, updates on the monks' journey and current location can be found on their Facebook page.
