Community members in Lockport, New York, are rallying together in their search for a missing mother. Sara Nicole Morningstar, who has been missing for almost a month, was last seen on May 24 at her home on East Avenue. On Saturday, volunteers organized a search party in hopes of finding any clues that could lead to her whereabouts.
Sara and her husband, Lux Morningstar, operate a tattoo shop on the first floor of their home. Lux recalls that on the day she went missing, Sara mentioned she was going upstairs to put on her makeup. However, he later realized that she never returned. After reviewing surveillance footage, Lux discovered that Sara had left the house around 2:30 p.m., heading east on East Avenue, and possibly getting into a car.
Both Lux and Sara's father have revealed that she has struggled with mental health issues in the past and has previously run away. However, this is the longest period of time she has been missing and there has been no activity on her social media accounts since her disappearance.
Volunteers from the WNY Missing and Unidentified Persons Network joined the search efforts on Saturday.
They plastered posters around the area and thoroughly combed through locations where Sara could potentially be, including the vicinity of train tracks and wooded areas.
In heartfelt messages to Sara, both her husband and father expressed their concern and urged her to come home. Lux pleaded, "We're worried about you. We're all worried about you. Just pick up the phone and call and say I'm ok. You know, that's all you have to do."
Similarly, her father emphasized the importance of her return, saying, "If someone does have her, bring her home. She needs to come back to her family. If she's out having fun, that's okay. We understand...we miss you, just come home safe, please."
Lockport police have initiated an investigation into Sara's disappearance and have classified her as a "vulnerable adult." They are seeking the public's assistance in locating her as Sara's untreated mental health issues may pose a significant risk of harm to herself.
Additionally, the volunteers involved in the search are urging anyone with security footage that may show Sara to provide it to the police.
Anyone with information regarding Sara Morningstar's whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Lt. Steve Tarnowski at (716) 439-6718, the police dispatch at (716) 433-7700, or the police confidential tip line at (716) 439-6707.
