The Aquarium of Niagara is set to captivate visitors with its latest attraction a it unveils their new the Great Lakes 360 exhibit. Opening on July 13th, this brand new museum within the aquarium will showcase 16 interactive exhibits featuring a diverse array of species native to the Great Lakes.
From turtles to sturgeon and more, visitors will have the unique opportunity to interact with these fascinating creatures and learn about their natural habitats. The Great Lakes 360 exhibit aims to educate and raise awareness about the importance of preserving these local ecosystems.
The grand opening of Great Lakes 360 was announced by New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Friday. Chad Fifer, the president and CEO of the Aquarium of Niagara, expressed his excitement about this milestone, stating, "This is a significant moment for the Aquarium of Niagara. As we celebrate the first expansion in our nearly 60-year history, we are thrilled to showcase these important local ecosystems as we increase our footprint in the community."
The Great Lakes exhibit is part of the larger Niagara Halls Heritage Gateways project, which aims to stimulate reinvestment in the city. Assembly member Angelo Morinello praised Great Lakes 360 as a major upgrade not only for the aquarium but also for Niagara Falls as a whole.
John Percy, the president and CEO of Destination Niagara USA, shared his enthusiasm for the potential of the Great Lakes exhibit to attract visitors to the Niagara region throughout the year. With its proximity to other popular attractions such as the Niagara Gorge, State Parks, and the New York Power Authority, Great Lakes 360 is expected to enhance the overall visitor experience in the area.
The creation of the Great Lakes 360 exhibit was made possible through the generous support of several grants. The aquarium received a $1 million capital grant from I LOVE NY's Market New York program, as well as a grant of $675,000 from Empire State Development.
