Niagara Falls Police responded to the 400 block of Portage Road around 4am on August 20th after reports of a suspicious condition that was later changed to a burglary.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the homeowners who stated that at 2:53am they were woke up by their dog barking and running down the street. Both were immediately alarmed as the dog should not have been outside. Fear set in as they left the bedroom. It was at this time they observed the AC unit which was located in the front window to be removed and the window open. That's when they knew someone had been in their home.
The male immediately went and looked to see if his book bag was in the kitchen, but it was not where he had put it the night before. The keys to his home and vehicle were attached to the book bag prompting him to run toward the driveway to see if the vehicle was still there. The car, a black 2021 Ford XLT, was gone.
Fortunately, the vehicle had a GPS tracker connected to an app that pinged to an alleyway within a few miles. Officers relocated to the area and recovered the vehicle. Officers did search the inside and outside of the house for any evidence with negative results.
No surveillance footage was available and there are no known suspects. No further information is available at this time.
