Niagara Falls Police responded to the 100 block of 70th Street around 8pm on September 20th after reports of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the complainants – a husband and wife – who stated their male roommate started a fire in the house and ran off. The female complainant stated that the roommate had been arguing with them all day long. He had moved in with them a few months ago, but was an alcoholic and always causing problems.
During the incident tonight, the roommate became irate and yelled something along the lines of “watch what I do now.” He then went upstairs. The complainants heard a commotion and then observed him run down the stairs with a shirt over his nose. They began to smell smoke and then realized he had started a fire upstairs.
Officers put a description of the male. Within a half hour, the roommate was apprehended and detained at a nearby 7-Eleven.
The extent of damage to the home is not known at this time. The roommate was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. No further information is available at this time.
