In a nutshell, water is diverted from the Niagara River (375,000 gallons a second) and moves through conduits under the City of Niagara Falls to Lewiston. The water then flows through the plant and spins turbines which power the generators.
The Niagara Power Project, which is the largest producer of electricity of New York State and most of the East Coast, is less than a ten (10) minute drive from Niagara Falls. Admission to the facility, which is open 9am - 5pm daily, and parking, are free. The Vista is also handicap accessible.
