62-Year-Old Woman Killed by Alleged Drunk Driver


A tragic incident occurred in Buffalo on Thursday night after a 62-year-old woman was struck by a drunk driver and died. The Buffalo Police Department reported that the driver, identified as 23-year-old Niyonna Cunningham of Buffalo, was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and two counts of driving while intoxicated.



The accident took place around 10pm at the intersection of Genesee Street and Bailey Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a pedestrian lying in the road. The victim was quickly transported to ECMC where she was pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.



According to police, Cunningham was taken into custody after allegedly failing field sobriety tests at the scene. Disturbingly, a 1-year-old child was present in Cunningham's vehicle at the time of the accident.


Buffalo Police are continuing to investigate the incident. No further information is available at this time.
