A 17-year-old juvenile is facing multiple charges after leading police on a brief vehicle pursuit on Wednesday evening. The incident unfolded around 10pm when officers attempted to stop a motorcycle in the area of 17th Street and Pine Avenue.
The motorcycle operator, who was later identified as the 17-year-old juvenile, accelerated at a high rate of speed prompting the pursuit. The pursuit was terminated due to the dangerously high speed which exceeded 100 mph at times. However, the Niagara Falls Police and Niagara County Sheriff's units continued to monitor the motorcyclist using their radios. Their vigilance paid off when they received information from a 911 call reporting that the motorcyclist had been spotted behind the Deveaux Mini Mart on Main Street.
Law enforcement officers and deputies swiftly responded to the scene and attempted to make contact with the operator. However, the juvenile fled on foot and sought refuge inside the store. He locked himself in a back room bathroom, leading to a tense standoff with the authorities. After a period of negotiation, the juvenile was successfully taken into custody.
As a result of his actions, the 17-year-old has been issued numerous tickets including misdemeanor traffic law charges. The motorcycle involved in the incident was towed from the scene for further investigation. The Niagara Falls Police Department and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office are working collaboratively to investigate the incident and gather additional information.
